ABOUT
Improving our response to public health emergencies
I am an expert in public health emergency preparedness and response and risk communication. My primary appointment is at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health as a research scientist and Project Director. I have consulted for private companies and professional organizations and been cited as an expert in international publications including BBC, the Atlantic, and Bloomberg News on COVID-19. Prior to my work on COVID-19, I have focused on the development of best practices in public health preparedness, response, and risk communication. I received my PhD in public health from NYU, a MSPH from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, and BS from Georgetown University.
RESEARCH & EVALUATION
Public health emergencies are complex and challenging.
As an academic researcher, I have worked on how to improve risk communication with the public during pandemics.
Through several projects across different emergencies, I have collaborated with colleagues domestically and internationally developed new methods such as a root cause analysis tool, peer assessment manual, and application of a facilitated lookback guide.
My work has been published in academic journals including Emerging Infectious Diseases; Preventive Medicine; Journal of Risk Research; and several others. For more information on these findings and publications, please see my Google Scholar page.
TRAINING
Information needs to get into the hands of those who can use it.
I create online and in-person materials depending tailored to particular audiences to help respond to and cope with the pandemic, whether it be a professional audience or student group.
